SRT Editor

An SRT file is a plain-text subtitle file: numbered captions, each with a start time, an end time and its text. Open one below to fix words, change any caption’s timing, shift the whole file earlier or later, add, delete or merge captions, and save a clean SRT. It flags overlapping captions and lines faster than your reading-speed limit.

FAQ

Questions

What is an SRT file?

A plain-text subtitle format. Each caption has a number, a start and end time such as 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500, and one or two lines of text.

How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

If every caption is early or late by the same amount, use Shift all to move them together. If the gap grows through the video, the file was made for a different cut; fix the timings in the sections that drift.

What reading speed should captions stay under?

The editor warns above 20 characters a second by default, and you can change the limit. Shorter lines that stay on screen longer are easier to read on a phone.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The tool runs in your browser, so your script or file never leaves your device.
